Course Overview:

This survey of the New Testament will be preceded by necessary supplementary background material to better understand and interpret the New Testament writings of Scripture.  This will be accomplished through familiarizing ourselves briefly with the political forces, occupational institutions, cultural movements, and patronistic societies that were characteristic of the first century Roman world. It is also important to reach back into the intertestamental period and view some of he events that influence life in New Testament times.

We will begin our survey of the New Testament writings themselves by exploring the unique emphasis and literary style of each of the four Gospels, but also combine them to include a chronological study of the life of Christ..  The Book of Acts provides a precursory historical context for many of the apostolic New Testament Epistles.  By linking the epistles to their historical base, the order and pattern of the New Testament will be seen more clearly.  Following a look at the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and each of the epistles, the course will conclude with a short study of the book of Revelation.

Course Objectives:.

1.  To assist the Christian leader in seeing the historical and spiritual content, unity, and progression of the New Testament Scripture.

2.  To enable Christian leaders to discover the main ideas and unique features of the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Epistles.

3. To explore various means of interpreting the apocalyptic and escatological book of Revelation.

4.  To provide the student with a general connectivity and comfortability with which to write, teach, and effectively communicate the basic fundamental aspects of the New Testament.
